Regeneration Score
A measure of sustained participation in long-term restoration work.
About Regeneration Points
Regeneration Points (RP) are a symbolic, internal unit used by Regenerativ to track participation and long-term ecological potential. They are not carbon credits, not offsets, and not financial instruments. Points reflect conservative estimates and are adjusted as projects progress through their lifecycle.
Core Principles
Points ≠ Credits ≠ Money
RP are internal symbolic units for tracking participation and potential impact, not tradable assets.
Conservative by Default
Points based on sequestration potential, not guaranteed outcomes.
Lifecycle-Aware
Points unlock progressively as projects move through stages (planting → establishment → maturity).
Comparable, Not Tradable
Scores allow comparison and tracking, not financial exchange.
How Regeneration Score Is Calculated
The Base Unit
One tonne of CO₂ sequestration potential equals one million Regeneration Points. This becomes the atomic unit of the system.
Score Components
Your Regeneration Score is a weighted index combining three components:
Carbon Core (60-70%)
Total Regeneration Points derived from lifetime CO₂ sequestration potential, adjusted by project lifecycle stage.
Ecosystem Multipliers
Contextual indicators: area regenerated, trees established, ecosystem type, community members supported.
Participation Modifiers
Referrals, campaign participation, and longevity. Capped at max +20% of Carbon Core to maintain honesty.
Lifecycle Weighting (Critical)
Each project has a lifecycle factor that adjusts your effective RP shown. This prevents overclaiming too early:
| Stage | Description | Lifecycle Factor |
|---|---|---|
| Allocated | Funds routed | 0.2 |
| Planted | Trees in ground | 0.4 |
| Established | Survival confirmed | 0.6 |
| Mature | Long-term sequestration | 1.0 |
Formula:
Effective RP = Total RP × Lifecycle Factor
You see both Total RP (lifetime potential) and Currently Realized RP
What the Score Does Not Reflect
- Direct ecological outcomes (e.g., carbon sequestered, trees planted)
- Ranking or competitive performance against other participants
- Financial value or investment returns
- Carbon credits, offsets, or environmental asset ownership
Example: How Points Convert
Conservative Calculation
Regeneration Points are calculated based on the long-term carbon sequestration potential of the restoration pathway your contribution supports, using conservative assumptions.
Illustrative Example:
$X contribution
Allocated to verified project
Mapped to Y estimated lifetime tCO₂ potential
Y × 1,000,000 = RP minted
⚠️ Note: Specific $ → tCO₂ conversion rates are not published unless locked and audited. Externally, we communicate "conservative project-level assumptions."
What NOT to Do (Yet)
To maintain the integrity and non-financial nature of Regeneration Points, the following are explicitly prohibited:
- Trading or transferring points between participants
- Tying points to dollar value or financial returns
- Promising equivalence to carbon offsets or credits
- Exposing precise sequestration curves publicly
These restrictions protect the system from greenwashing and regulatory issues while maintaining focus on long-term regeneration.
